Pilates quite literally changed my life.
I first began my journey with Pilates nearly 10 years ago as a way to further enhance my performance as a runner. It wasn't quite love at first teaser. I loved the fast movement of running but slowing myself down for Pilates seemed impossible. I believed that if you didn't sweat and burn hundreds of calories then it wasn't exercise. But it was this belief that left me feeling completely disconnected from myself and my body.
Pilates quite literally changed my life, my body and my mindset.
Before Pilates, I was running too many miles and pushing my physical limits to the point of physical pain. Everything hurt but I thought “pushing through the pain” was OK. And then I tried a few Pilates classes and the pain began to subside. I felt good again. Pilates transformed my relationship with fitness. It helped me learn that moving more mindfully and slowly was what my body had been craving all along. This shift allowed me to heal myself from ongoing pain and tone up and strengthen muscles I had neglected. I saw physical changes I had never achieved. And maybe most importantly, it grounded me into my body and made me feel more present.
A long time Pilates teacher of mine encouraged me to go through the first Pilates teacher training just to “try it.” And like that I was hooked. It was a type of fulfillment and joy I had never experienced in any previous job. I love Pilates because it's more than just 6-pack abs and lean legs, it is about FEELING GOOD and developing a deeper connection with the body you live in.
As my teaching and movement practice evolved, I began to see the importance of weaving other modalities into the classes. Every class now involves toning, strength training, and a cardio component. It is the kind of class that leaves you saying “Holy fu**, that was hard, but I did it!”
As an instructor, my goal is to bring you home to your bodies. I want to help you see how incredibly strong and capable you really are and allow you to celebrate the amazing body you have.
